Gugun Blues Shelter or Gugun and The Blues Shelter (often abbreviated as GBS), or Gugun Power Trio (for US and Europe Market) is an Indonesian blues band, formed in Jakarta, Indonesia in 2004. The current member in this band consists of Muhammad ‘Gugun’ Gunawan (vocal/guitar), John Armstrong also known as ‘Jono’ as a nickname he was given in Indonesia (bass), and Aditya ‘Bowie’ Wibowo (drummer). They've released four albums in Indonesia Get The Bug (2004), Turn It On (2007), Gugun Blues Shelter (2010), Satu Untuk Berbagi (2011) and two albums in US Far East Blues Experience (2010) and Solid Ground (2011).
They have played internationally in few festivals such as in England, Skegness Rock and Blues Festival, in Timbre Rock and Roots Festival in Singapore also Shanghai World Expo in China. In 2011, they have won a band competition, which brought them to play on stage along with world notable rock band, Bon Jovi at Hyde Park, London, England.
On March 3rd 2012, Gugun Blues shelter representing the blasting rockin’ high blues line with unstoppable funk at Java Jazz festival 2012 Jakarta International Expo (JI EXPO) Kemayoran, Jakarta. Gugun Blues Shelter burned the stage with their awesome performances. If hearing them play is already a mind blowing, this time they brought the game even higher by featuring rhodes player Tony Monaco and the funk/soul man Robert Randolph. Some of the song they played in Java Jazz Festival 2012 is Solid ground, Funky chicken, When I see you again, Set my soul on fire. Marvelous and fire burning show it was, where we got more vibrant colors by still listening to the soul of Gugun Blues Shelter.
Having a band that has reached International scale like them will always be a pride for Indonesia not only for their consistency as a musician, they also showed to the world how Indonesia can compete and be recognize in world wide.
